Liverpool chairman makes pledge to ‘extraordinary’ fans

Liverpool chairman Tom Werner has promised that the Premier League runners-up “are only going to get stronger” in their pursuit of glory.
The Reds finished second in the Premier League on 97 points after Sunday’s 2-0 win over Wolves, missing out on Manchester City’s title by a single point.
But Liverpool are here to stay and face Tottenham in the Champions League final next month, with their seven-year trophy drought tantalisingly close to ending.
Their success this season has come on the back of heavy investment in 2018, and chairman Werner has promised the club’s “extraordinary support” that they will improve.
“We’re only going to get stronger,” Werner said. “Ninety-seven points, it’s a remarkable year.
“We obviously didn’t win the league but we’ll be back next year and we’ve got a lot of motivation to win the league next year. I’m excited.
“It was a magical season. Obviously we’re disappointed that we didn’t win the league but it was a remarkable season and the squad is exciting.
“I think that we’ve made a lot of friends around the world and I think we’ve done well by our supporters. I can’t say enough about Jurgen and all the talent on the field.
“The support was extraordinary. As Jurgen said, between the support on Tuesday and the way the team played on Tuesday, that was one of the great matches at Anfield.
“I look forward to a great match in Madrid.”
