Liverpool are looking to sign Nice's Khephren Thuram ahead of Newcastle.

Liverpool are reportedly ‘closing in’ on Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram, who is also being targeted by Premier League rivals Newcastle United.

The Premier League giants have already signed World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Liverpool are hoping that he will be joined at Anfield by one or two more new midfielders before next season.

Thuram has emerged as a leading target for Klopp following his emergence in Ligue 1 with Nice. The 22-year-old has already played 138 times for the French side in the senior ranks.

Earlier this month, it was claimed that Liverpool have ‘agreed personal terms’ with Thuram and defender Ibrahima Konate is keen for him to sign for the English side.

“I would be very happy for him [Thuram] to come to Liverpool and I would take him under my wing and I would do everything for him to progress and become the player he wants to become,” Konate said (via RMC Sport).

He added: “If Khephren has the opportunity to come to a club like Liverpool, I think he will be surprised by the enthusiasm that will come behind him.

“It’s up to him to work. He’s still very young but he has an incredible margin for improvement so I’m confident.”

Football Insider are now reporting that Liverpool are ‘closing in’ on Thuram. The player ‘wants the move’ and with the club ‘pushing for a full agreement’, it is suggested that they ‘expect to complete a deal’.

This is described as a ‘big blow’ to Newcastle as they have also ‘expressed interest’ in the France international. He is ‘admired’ by the Magpies but a move to Liverpool looks more likely at this stage.

Spanish outlet Fichajes are meanwhile reporting that Liverpool are ‘following three midfielders at the request of Jurgen Klopp’.

Southampton’s Romeo Lavia, Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch and Real Madrid’s Federico Valverde are said to be ‘in their sights’.

There is expected to be ‘intense competition’ for Lavia and it is ‘estimated’ that it will cost €46m to sign him amid interest from Arsenal.

As for Gravenberch, Klopp has been ‘impressed’ by the Bayern Munich player’s ‘physique’, even though he ‘does not enter the plans of Thomas Tuchel.

The Dutchman would cost €25m, while it was recently reported that Liverpool are ‘ready to pay’ €90m to snatch Valverde from Real Madrid.

Klopp thinks Valverde could be an ‘ideal solution’ for Liverpool and Real Madrid ‘could be willing to sell him’ following the arrival of Jude Bellingham.
