Liverpool have joined Real Madrid in the race to sign Bayern Munich star David Alaba, according to reports.

The 28-year-old has spent his entire professional career with the German giants. He made his senior debut during the 2009/10 campaign when he was only 17 years old.

Since then, he has become a huge player for Bayern. Alaba has made over 400 appearances for them since he made his debut.

The Austrian international has proved himself to be a truly world-class talent. He is also very versatile having played all across the defence, centre midfield and on either wing during his career so far.

Alaba has also been the standout player for Austria in recent years. Since making his senior debut in 2009, he has been capped 75 times and he has scored 14 goals.

The defender has won the Austrian Footballer of the Year award on seven separate occasions. He has also won everything there is to win at Bayern Munich, which includes nine Bundesliga titles and two Champions Leagues.

Alaba is out of contract at the end of this season, and he has his heart set on leaving the club. In recent weeks he has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Football insider Fabrizio Romano revealed on Monday that Madrid are leading the race to sign him. But he offered an update via Twitter on Tuesday suggesting that Liverpool are also interested:

“Liverpool are among the five clubs that have contacted David Alaba agent to sign him next summer.

“But Real Madrid are leading the race, they’re pushing to sign Alaba and David dreams of playing for Real Madrid. And talks with Real are progressing, as said yesterday.”
