Liverpool could field two competitive XIs – Lucas

Lucas Leiva believes that Liverpool have a squad capable of fielding two competitive sides.

The Reds spent almost £70million this summer on six new signings, including Sadio Mane of Southampton and Georginio Wijnaldum of Newcastle.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have started the Premier League season in indifferent form, winning, drawing and losing one of their opening three games.

But Lucas believes that Klopp has assembled a squad which would be able to field two capable XIs – although neither would have a very competent left-back.

Fortunately, we did a comparison of the strongest second XIs eight of the 20 Premier League clubs could field. Liverpool did not fare all that well.

“I think it’s clear that we have very good players in every single position,” he told the club’s official website. “And not just one good player, I would say we have two teams you could put out to get you results.

“Of course the Premier League is very difficult, but I think the squad we have, with the new players who have made us stronger — hopefully it’s going to be a very good season for the club.”
