Champions League winners Liverpool have ‘moved up a gear’ in the race for Lille winger Nicolas Pepe, according to reports in France.
Journalist Duncan Castles recently claimed that the Reds had “been in contact” with Pepe’s agent over a move with Manchester United and Tottenham also reportedly interested.
All the reported interest in Pepe comes after the 24-year-old bagged 23 goals for Lille in all competitions this campaign, while he also contributed 11 assists for his team-mates.
Lille’s valuation is understood to be around €80million (£70.8m) for Pepe and L’Equipe add that Liverpool have ‘come close’ to that figure after they ‘moved up a gear’ in the race.
That comes after the Daily Mirror claimed in mid-March that Paris Saint-Germain are in negotiations over Pepe, but United are confident of being able to compete for him.
