Liverpool centre-back Nat Phillips is likely to leave Anfield before the transfer window closes, according to reports.

The Englishman came into the Liverpool fold last season following injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez.

He went on to make 20 appearances in all competitions for the Reds, while also scoring one Premier League goal against Burnley.

Phillips received praise from manager Jurgen Klopp for stepping up throughout the campaign.

The German remains a big fan of his talent. However, he could move on to become a regular starter elsewhere as van Dijk and Matip have since returned to full fitness.

The Athletic write that Phillips is likely to secure a transfer, with numerous Premier League clubs monitoring his situation.

Liverpool have set his price tag at £12million, which represents a decent fee for a 24-year-old defender who is on the up.

The Reds are adamant that he will not be loaned out. He will be kept as backup if no permanent bids come in before the 11pm deadline.

Brighton and Newcastle United have previously been linked with Phillips and could therefore submit offers. West Ham reportedly made contact in July, although they have since brought in Kurt Zouma from Chelsea.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have tied down skipper Jordan Henderson to a new four-year contract.

Henderson is the club’s longest-serving active player, although there were concerns that he might not pen a new deal.

The Englishman’s future has been sorted, keeping him at Anfield until June 2025.

Reacting to the news, Henderson said: “I’m obviously very honoured and proud to continue the journey I’ve already been on here.

“It’s amazing to finally get it done and just concentrate on looking forward and what the future may hold.

“I’m in a different place of course, as a player and as a person, from when I first walked in. I’ve learned and grown a lot over my time here, and I’ve got to thank a lot of people for that.

“I’ve loved every minute of it, even when I look back at the tough times, I was still enjoying being a part of this football club. The longer I can do that, the better for me really. I want to be here as long as possible, I’ve always said that.

“To continue this journey is incredible for me and my family, and I hope the fans and the club feel the same way.”
