Kylian Mbappe has been linked with numerous clubs over the last month, including Chelsea and Liverpool.

Liverpool are now ‘favourites’ to sign Kylian Mbappe on a season-long loan deal from Paris Saint-Germain, according to reports.

France captain Mbappe has been subject of a world-record £259million bid from Saudi Arabia club Al Hilal, but Paris St Germain could also be open to a temporary move ahead of the possibility of seeing him leave for nothing next year at the end of his current contract.

Chelsea and Barcelona are also understood to be among the clubs trying to put together deals for Mbappe, who is reported to have already agreed a deal to sign for Real Madrid on a free transfer and so secure a 160m euro (£138m) signing-on fee.

Anfield has also been touted as a possible destination for the coming season, but Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been quick to pour cold water on those rumours.

“We laugh about it,” Klopp told Sky Germany as he prepared the squad for the final match of their pre-season Asia tour against Bayern Munich in Singapore, which the Reds lost 4-3.

“I can say that I think he’s a really good player, but the financial conditions don’t suit us at all. I wouldn’t like to ruin the story now, but as far as I know, there’s nothing to it.

“It’s possible that someone else from the club is preparing something and wants to surprise me…that hasn’t happened in the eight years that I’ve been here. That would be the first time.”

Despite Klopp’s comments, Football Transfers claim that Liverpool have ’emerged as the favourites to sign’ Mbappe ‘as his transfer stand-off with his current employers rages on’.

The report acknowledges Klopp’s insistence that the Reds won’t be signing Mbappe – but they claim that a ‘loan deal now could suit all parties’ with the Liverpool boss’ comments coming when they were linked with a permanent move.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has not mentioned interest from Premier League clubs but insists there is still a lot of “tension between all parties involved” in Mbappe’s situation at PSG.

Romano wrote in his Caught Offside column: “There were new rumours on Saturday that Paris Saint-Germain are prepared to bench or even exclude Kylian Mbappe from their squad for the first games of the new season; whilst also continuing their current plan of making the superstar train away from the main group of players.

“What I have been told is that a decision on how to proceed with Mbappe, with regard to training and including him in matchday squads, will be made early next week – probably on Monday.

“There is still tension between all parties involved as over recent days PSG tried to convince Mbappe to sign a new contract by including in the deal a specific sale clause for the summer of 2024; an offer the player once again rejected as the plan is still to leave for free next year.”
