Liverpool flop wants Premier League move as he’s ‘keen to leave’ following nightmare season
Liverpool loanee Arthur Melo reportedly wants another crack at the Premier League after a disappointing spell at Anfield, as he’s ‘keen to leave’ current side Juventus.
Arthur could have transformed a Reds midfield which performed well below the expected standard this season. Indeed, it was the area of the side that came under the most scrutiny during a rough patch.
While he could have made a difference, he spent most of the season on the sidelines. The midfielder played 13 minutes of senior football, before sustaining a quad injury which kept him out for months, and he never managed to force his way back in.
He never got to experience Premier League football, with his only Reds appearance in senior competition coming in the Champions League.
As such, he’s hoping for the chance to play in the English top flight next season. Indeed, the Daily Mail reports he is ‘keen to leave’ current side Juventus, and ‘wants to have another crack’ at the Premier League.
While it wouldn’t be a surprise if nobody wanted to take a gamble on a player who’s been hit by injury and never actually managed a game, it seems he could find himself a role at another English club this summer.
Indeed, the report states there are ‘two Premier League sides’ waiting in the wings for him. It’s not mentioned who those sides are, or if his next move would be a loan – as his spell at Liverpool is – or a permanent move.
However, it’s doubtful the Anfield outfit is one of the sides who are interested in him. Jurgen Klopp had the chance to reintegrate Arthur into the squad after his injury and decided against it, sitting him on the bench on multiple occasions.
What’s more, the Reds have already signed Alexis Mac Allister as a midfield reinforcement, and they’re linked with quite a few more players in the centre of the park.
As such, if Arthur is to return to the Premier League, it’s almost certain it’ll be to another side. But that there are a couple of suitors is a positive for him, as after a major injury, he could have found himself in a tough spot when it came to game time.
At least if he is to move to a new side, he’ll know he’s wanted, and could make an impact.
