Premier League side Liverpool are still in talks with Fulham over the potential signing of winger Fabio Carvalho, according to reports.

The Portugal-born England under-18 international has been on fire for Fulham this season as the Londoners sit eight points clear at the top of the Championship table.

Carvalho has scored seven goals and provided four assists in 18 Championship appearances for Marco Silva’s men this campaign.

All Premier League January transfers in one place

Carvalho, who was selected in our top five teenagers in the Championship feature earlier in the season, is in demand with a host of clubs lining up to take the 19-year-old, who made his senior debut in the Premier League last term.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano insisted last week that Liverpool had been monitoring him for some time and that their recruitment department see him as a ‘top future talent’.

While The Athletic journalist James Pearce claimed that if the Reds – who have already signed Luis Diaz from Porto in January – were to make a signing towards the end of the window it would be Carvalho.

And now Romano is back with another update on transfer deadline day and claims that Liverpool have been in ‘direct contact’ with Fulham since this morning as they look to agree a fee.

It is understood that the Cottagers ‘want more than €6/7m’ with Liverpool ‘prepared’ to offer Carvalho ‘five-year deal if they can agree fee’ – but Carvalho will remain at the Championship side until the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Fulham boss Silva recently claimed that Carvalho would be at the club until the summer at least, but they are finding it tough to tie down the player past the end of the season.

“Fabio will be with us until the end of the season,” Silva said on Friday. “I would like to see him here for more years.

“From day one I have been trying to keep him. It is not a surprise that clubs are interested in Fabio. We are talking about a young player with big talent.

“The situation is not easy because he is in the last year of his contract, but that is the reality. It is out of our plans for him to leave the club in this window.

“It has been difficult for us to renew with him, but we are trying.

“It is always difficult with a player of this talent – even with a contract it is difficult to keep him, and without it is even worse. But Fabio will be with us until the end of this season.”
