Liverpool have reportedly held ‘internal talks’ about selling Mohamed Salah this summer as they feel that they can ‘secure a huge fee’ for the forward.

The Reds have been a shambles this term after they came close to winning the quadruple last season. They currently find themselves around the mid-table places in the Premier League.

Several of their players have looked burned out after pushing incredibly hard to compete with Man City for a few years.

Salah is one Liverpool player who has underperformed this season. He has scored seven goals in 20 league appearances but he is certainly having a lesser impact on games compared to previous years.

The Egypt international penned a new contract last year. His deal expires in 2025 but it has recently been claimed that he has ‘huge discontent’ with Jurgen Klopp and Real Madrid are interested in him.

Football Insider are now reporting that ‘Liverpool have held internal talks over selling a superstar’ for a fee over £50m. They add that Salah is one player ‘the club may be willing to sell this summer who could secure a huge fee’.

The Premier League club are planning a ‘major overhaul’ amid ‘takeover speculation and huge upheaval behind the scenes’.

The report claims that under Fenway Sports Group (FSG), big-money signings are ‘out of the question’ unless there are ‘one or two big-name sales’.

It is indicated that ‘internal discussions’ have been held to work out who Liverpool can sell to ‘secure the kind of top-tier fee the club need’.

Along with Salah, it is claimed that Luis Diaz, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson and Darwin Nunez have been noted as ‘players worth £50million-plus’.

Chris Sutton has claimed that Salah “embodies Liverpool’s confidence crisis”.

‘Liverpool signed Cody Gakpo in January. Nice player, but it was the midfield that needed addressing. Liverpool’s lack of control in midfield has been a major issue. And yet Klopp and Co did not fix the problem last month,’ Sutton wrote for The Daily Mail.

‘What has happened to Mohamed Salah? Once a Fantasy Football banker, he has not scored or assisted a goal in the Premier League since Boxing Day. He embodies Liverpool’s confidence crisis.

‘Virgil van Dijk has been a big miss. He has not been outstanding this season but is still the best they have and Joel Matip was found out by Wolves. When your leader is missing, you have to show you can handle yourself.

‘For so long, Klopp had nothing but praise lavished on him. But now he is being asked awkward questions. Klopp clashed with a reporter in his post-Wolves press conference. He is letting himself be side-tracked by outside noise.

‘We’re not surprised when Liverpool are beaten by Wolves, by Brentford, by Brighton (twice) any more. They are losing because of bad performances and that’s alarming. Klopp’s philosophy is masterful when in full flow but it’s not working and I’m not sure he has a Plan B.

‘The uncertainty over the club’s ownership and over the manager is not helping. It is a mess off the pitch and that is leaking on to it.’
