Liverpool have reportedly turned their attentions to Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij after their embarrassing climb-down over Virgil van Dijk.
The Reds issued an apology to Southampton and publicly ended their interest in Van Dijk on Wednesday evening after facing the threat of a potential transfer ban for their conduct in courting the player.
Van Dijk had been identified as their priority transfer target this summer, with Jurgen Klopp keen to reinforce his defence.
But the club will now move on to other targets after ending their interest, and De Vrij is reportedly top of their list of alternatives.
According to Sky Italia, Liverpool have already had an offer of around £17m rejected for the centre-half.
Lazio supposedly want considerably more for the 25-year-old however, and it should also be stated that no British outlets are reporting the interest, aside from rehashing the original Sky claim.
