Klopp has long been an admirer of the Colombia interntional, who made an instant impact on debut with an assist against Cardiff in the FA Cup.

And the Liverpool boss says it’s a pleasure to work with a play who has such “joy and love of football”.

Klopp said: “Luis is a top boy, top-class player. He showed that already in two appearances he had for us now. The last game he didn’t come on.

“It’s like it is for a new player, he has to get used to different things in a team. We have all other players fit and they know exactly what I want from them.

“We give Luis a little bit more time to adapt to it, but he is an incredible player.

“His joy and love of football is so obvious. When you see him training, he cannot stop smiling – I never had a player like this, it’s crazy!

“We are so, so happy to have him here. It’s absolutely great and we expect a lot from him now and in the future. I have a good feeling it will be a really nice story with Luis at Liverpool.”

Diaz didn’t feature against Burnley on Sunday, but could return to the side against Inter Milan on Wednesday, who will pose a different challenge.

On the difference between playing Burnley and Inter Milan, Klopp added: “The difference is massive between Burnley and Inter in some parts, but in other parts, not so much because it is still a football game. If we are dominant, Inter will defend pretty compact but I’m pretty sure it won’t be as windy or rainy as it was in Burnley so that will make a difference.

“Inter are a top class team with top class players and a top class manager. They look really rock solid they have creativity on the pitch and they are very well-drilled.

“Individual quality is big and that is the Champions League. We have to show a to class performance to even have a chance.”
