Liverpool told Eredivisie midfielder would a great alternative to Klopp’s ‘perfect signing’

Liverpool should attempt to sign Feyenoord midfielder Orkun Kokcu if they fail to get a deal for Ryan Gravenberch over the line, according to former Ajax manager Aad de Mos.
The Reds have been terrible for most of the season with Jurgen Klopp’s side currently sitting eighth in the Premier League table and with no hope of winning any major honours.
Their impressive 6-1 victory over Leeds United on Monday night gave fans hope that they still have an outside chance of qualifying for the Champions League.
Livepool are currently nine points behind fourth-placed Newcastle United with eight games to play and the Reds would probably need to win all their matches to sneak into the top four.
Klopp’s midfield have taken much of the blame for some of their poor performances this term and Liverpool are reportedly looking to sign at least one or two midfielders in the summer transfer window.
Bayern Munich midfielder Gravenberch is understood to be towards the top of their list but De Mos reckons Feyenoord’s Kokcu would be a good alternative if Liverpool miss out on the Netherlands international.
“I think Lazio Rome and Roma, AC Milan and Tottenham, those are teams that could definitely fit,” De Mos said of Kokcu on the Twee Viertje podcast (via Sport Witness).
“If it’s a coach who wants to play attacking football and wants to play good football, then possibly, because it’s all grafted on young players, if Gravenberch can play at Liverpool, and Gakpo, he can also play at Liverpool.
“I think he should look at a club that really suits him. He shouldn’t make the mistake of going to Bayern Munich because of course it’s a hierarchy that determines who plays and who doesn’t, and also determines whether a coach is good enough.
“You’ve seen that now with Nagelsmann and Tuchel, the situation. He has to look at a team where the coach really wants him, then I think it’s mainly with Liverpool.”
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano brough an update on Liverpool’s interest in Gravenberch the other day with the Reds seeing him “as a perfect signing”.
Romano wrote in his Caught Offside column: “Liverpool are still there for Ryan Gravenberch, still pushing, they have not given up. They consider him as a perfect signing, and he wants to play, not to be on the bench like he has been at Bayern.
“Still, Bayern want him to stay, so they have no intention to negotiate, let’s see if they can persuade him to stay.
“Liverpool are waiting, but Bayern consider him a really important player, so Liverpool are also considering Mason Mount and they will have contacts with the camp of Alexis Mac Allister soon, probably in the next few weeks.”
