Liverpool could make a move to bring Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher to Anfield before the transfer deadline, according to reports.

The Reds are desperate to sign at least a couple of new midfielders over the next two transfer windows with Jurgen Klopp insisting over the weekend that all their business will be done in the summer market.

Cody Gakpo arrived from PSV Eindhoven on January 1  – but the Reds have seemingly been quite quiet in the transfer market since then, with the belief they are saving their money for a summer move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham.

But despite Klopp insisted there will be no transfers, the Daily Mail insist that Liverpool are still hoping to sign a midfielder before the deadline.

Gallagher rejected a £45m move to the Reds’ Merseyside rivals Everton on Monday with the England international ‘not interested’ in the transfer in January.

Newcastle United are also understood to be keen on a loan move for Gallagher and now the Daily Mail have thrown Liverpool into the mix too.

The newspaper insists that Liverpool ‘like’ Gallagher and that he is one of a few targets they ‘want’ before the deadline with Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes also mooted.

It has been claimed in other newspapers that Liverpool are also keeping their eye on other targets ahead of the Tuesday deadline with the Daily Express insisting that Sheffield United’s Sander Berge and Nunes on their radar in the final hours.

The Reds’ midfield has come under intense scrutiny this season with Klopp’s side currently ninth in the Premier League table, ten points behind fourth-placed Manchester United and a further 11 points adrift of leaders Arsenal.

And, speaking earlier this month, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher outlined the exact type of midfield that the Reds required to turn their season around.

“It feels to me that the midfield has morphed into more of a technical midfield rather than a high energy midfield and that’s what happens when you lose that Wijnaldum figure alongside a holding midfielder,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.

“Right now, Liverpool tonight had Jordan Henderson – who isn’t as energetic as three or four years ago – but then the technical player like Thiago – and Harvey Elliott, Carvalho has played there at times.

“This midfield isn’t what you expect or what Jurgen Klopp really wants.”
