Gareth Bale and Jurgen Klopp “would be the perfect fit” at Liverpool, according to club legend Mark Lawrenson.
Bale has fallen out of favour at Real Madrid to such an extent that the former most expensive player in the world was on the brink of moving to the Chinese Super League for no fee.
But Real had a late change of heart and withdrew from negotiations, with Bale set to start the season under Zinedine Zidane despite being ostracised by the Frenchman.
Tottenham have been mooted as a potential destination, as well as Manchester United.
But Lawrenson feels Premier League rivals Liverpool would be missing a trick by not making a move.
“I think Klopp could get the best out of him,” he told Paddy Power.
“The only problem is would he fit into that front three but you could even play him on the left of the three in midfield and let him bomb on.
“He’s such a good player and such a talent. He just needs to be loved and Klopp would be the perfect fit to do that.
“People say he’s got injury problems and all that but Klopp would get him mega fit.”
