Liverpool legend insists Reds are ‘strong favourites’ against Inter
Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool are “strong favourites” to beat Inter Milan over two legs in their Champions League last 16 tie.
The Reds are in terrific form going into Wednesday evening’s first leg in Italy.
They are unbeaten in 2022 with two draws and seven wins, most recently winning 1-0 at Burnley to keep in touch with Premier League leaders Manchester City.
Ronaldo makes monumental decision; Liverpool ref controversy
Inter are without numerous key players for the visit of Liverpool. Joaquin Correa and Robin Gosens continue to recover from injuries whilst Nico Barella is suspended.
Nerazzurri boss Simone Inzaghi has ex-Premier League stars Edin Dzeko and Alexis Sanchez at his disposal, with the former expected to start up front with Lautaro Martinez.
Despite only tasting defeat twice in Serie A this term, the Italian champions are heavily unfavoured to overcome Liverpool.

And the Merseysiders’ former centre-half Carragher has admitted that the Reds are “strong favourites” to progress to the quarter-finals.
“I’m excited about the tie,” Carragher told CBS Sports (quotes via Metro).
“I think that’s the real big game of the night and one of the biggest ones of this round.
“But Liverpool and I think Premier League teams now, when they come up against Italian teams, are strong favourites.”
Jota has impressed ever since his move to Anfield, initially coming in as a squad player but now finding himself as one of the first names on the team sheet.
The Portuguese forward has slotted into Liverpool’s formidable front three alongside Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
Parlour said on talkSPORT: “What he’s done since (Mo) Salah and (Sadio) Mane have been away – Jota has been unbelievable. I think he’s the best number 9 at the moment.
Trying to add perspective, talkSPORT presenter Laura Woods responded to Parlour: “Hang on a minute. Let’s say the top three are (Kylian) M’Bappe, Salah and (Erling) Haaland, are you subbing out Haaland for Jota?”
To which Parlour added: “Erm… possibly yes. I think Jota’s been brilliant. What a signing he’s been.”
