Liverpool hero Jan Molby believes that Jurgen Klopp should take a punt on a Watford star to reinforce his midfield.

Former France U21 international Abdoulaye Doucoure was both the Hornets’ Player of the Season and top scorer last campaign, and has been equally impressive so far this term.

The 25-year-old has attracted reported interest from the Premier League’s big guns, with the Daily Express claiming that Spurs are lining up a move for the £35m-rated midfielder.

Molby believes he could fit in under Klopp and Anfield: “I can absolutely see why Liverpool are being linked with Watford’s Doucoure,” he wrote in the Liverpool Echo.

“I’m a big fan of his and have been for a few years now.

“Doucoure is a modern-day midfielder. He covers the ground very, very quickly but there’s a lot more to his game than that.

“But the way to sharpen him up is to train and play with better players. He’d have that at Liverpool.

“Sometimes when you look at players, you are looking at potential, and I think there is untapped potential in Doucoure’s game.

“He has played some passes this season that obviously don’t get highlighted the way they deserve, but he looks a really, really good player.

“He is a good footballer and he sees things very well. I think he would be an absolutely sensational signing.”
