Liverpool are still keen on bringing Chelsea defender Levi Colwill to Anfield in the summer transfer window, according to reports.

The Reds are still looking to sign a new centre-back in the summer transfer window, while they are also waiting for Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to resolve their futures before deciding whether to sign more midfielders.

Liverpool are hoping to improve on their fifth-placed finish last term, which was the first time Jurgen Klopp’s side had finished outside the top four for seven years.

They have already made some progress with the signings for Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton in a bargain £35m deal and Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig for £60m.

Chelsea defender Colwill, who impressed on loan at Brighton last season, has now emerged as one of their top targets for the summer window despite Fabrizio Romano’s warnings that the Blues are not prepared to sell at any price.

Romano said on his YouTube channel last week: “Chelsea’s message on Colwill is still the same, he isn’t going anywhere and ‘is the future of Chelsea’ and is a crucial part of the project.

“Liverpool like Colwill but they are not negotiating anything because they know he’s untouchable.”

However, transfer insider Graeme Bailey has insisted that there is a “belief” among the Liverpool recruitment team that they can sign him this summer.

Bailey said on Talking Transfers: “There’s something in this. Liverpool are pushing hard for this, there’s blood in the water, and they can really sense that.

“I think Liverpool, he is their top target now. There is a belief at Anfield that they could get him.

And now Football Insider claim they have a ‘major update’ on Liverpool’s pursuit of Colwill with the report claiming the Reds ‘remain interested’ in the England Under-21 international.

It is acknowledged that ‘a deal will not be straightforward’ with Chelsea ‘desperate to keep’ Colwill at Stamford Bridge next season.

The report adds that ‘all signs are pointing’ to the 20-year-old – who has two years remaining on his deal at Chelsea – staying with Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

If Liverpool fail to land Colwill this summer then ‘Sporting CP’s Goncalo Inacio and Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven are also on the club’s shortlist.’
