Harvey Elliott was not scheduled to leave Liverpool on loan this summer but Blackburn ‘presented a strong case’ to change their minds, according to reports.
It is highly unusual for a 17-year-old to be loaned to a Championship club but an exception was made after Rovers persuaded Liverpool that Elliott would get first-team football at Ewood Park.
Elliott was then left to make the decision about the loan move and opted to make the switch to join Tony Mowbray’s side.
The Lancashire Telegraph claim that Mowbray’s previous handling of Ryan Kent at Coventry was a factor in Liverpool’s decision.
Elliott made his Premier League debut last season and has now played nine senior games for Liverpool.
Harvey Elliott (03) heads to Blackburn on loan for the season. This is an atypical loan for a pretty atypical player. Indulge me with a thread on why. https://t.co/R6tC0iwTMm
