Liverpool’s potential move for Jude Bellingham could be ‘a tightrope’ and concern has been raised over the club putting all their eggs in one basket after a bare January.
The Reds are 10 points outside the top four, and have suffered this season. Questions have been raised about some areas of the squad and they’ve been urged to recruit.
Despite both of those factors, Jurgen Klopp was not busy in the transfer market. He made just one signing: that of forward Cody Gakpo.
It’s easy to see how that might be cause for concern, with the midfield seemingly needing a revamp. There is one big reason why Klopp might have decided against recruiting in the midfield: Bellingham.
It might have seemed pointless to spend money on new midfielders who might not be playing in six months time, and would take funds away from the potential snare.
However, the reluctance to spend in January is a concern for some, including one journalist, who feels the Bellingham move might not be cut and dried and could leave Liverpool in a tough spot.
“I just kind of hope that Liverpool haven’t moved because the summer is sorted – that’s my hope. And if that’s not the case, and if it’s still a tightrope with Bellingham, then I’m concerned, because it is kind of getting to a point where it’s a bit like we’re floating in the middle of the sea on a raft,” he said on Blood Red.
“Jude Bellingham was kind of like the only saviour for us and it feels a little bit like all eggs in one basket, and I’ve said that a few times.”
Indeed, if the Reds were holding out for the Bellingham move and it doesn’t happen, they’ll be left with egg on their face. It’s one thing to tank for a season when you know there’s a rebuild coming the next window, but if that rebuild doesn’t come, they’ll have to go back to square one.
As such, they’ll hope he does come in and he’s the missing piece of the puzzle. However, it’s not likely to be a very easy move, with a number of other clubs such as Real Madrid and Chelsea sniffing around.
