Premier League side Liverpool have made their first offer to sign Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni this summer, according to reports.

Manchester United and Chelsea have also reportedly been chasing the France international this summer with a number of other top clubs around Europe interested.

The 22-year-old has scored five goals and contributed one assist for Monaco in 45 appearances in all competitions this season.

Tchouameni played at every age group for France from under-16 to under-21 before making his senior debut for the national side in September last year.

He made the move from Bordeaux to Monaco in 2020 and has now played 92 times for the Monegasques, operating mainly from a defensive midfield position.

Reports in France and Spain claimed yesterday that Liverpool are now favourites to land Tchouameni this summer after Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano said last Tuesday that the midfielder was “being monitored by” the Premier League club.

And now Spanish website Fichajes insists that Liverpool and Real Madrid ‘have shown the most interest to date’ in Tchouameni and now the Reds have made their ‘first great offer’ for him.

It is understood that Jurgen Klopp wants to ‘get ahead’ of the competition for his signature and ‘seize the services’ of the talented midfielder.

Klopp has made it Liverpool’s ‘absolute priority’ to land Tchouameni in the upcoming transfer window ‘in a move that could currently reach’ €70m (£60m).

That fee would be ‘more than enough to convince’ Monaco to sell their prized asset who is ‘considered by many to be the new Paul Pogba’.

The report adds that Liverpool ‘threatens to leave’ Real Madrid without the Monaco midfielder and that their offer has put ‘distance’ between the two clubs.

Liverpool’s hopes of winning the Quadruple this season took a blow over the weekend as their 1-1 draw against Tottenham saw them slip to three points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City with three games to go.

On his side’s performance against Spurs, Klopp said: The crosses you can read easy. They are not useful in a game like this with the profile of players they have in the box. That makes no sense.

“You have to keep going to find the momentum, to pile through the gaps, get to the touchline and square it from there.

“The main challenge in a game like this is that you are constantly in a creating mood, knowing each missed pass is a massive problem (as it leaves them open to a counter-attack).

“It is really difficult to stay calm in these moments and do exactly the right thing. Now we have to use the good things, delete the bad things and go from here.”
