Liverpool, Man Utd ‘starting to observe’ defender but Reds ‘most active’
Premier League side Liverpool are at the front of the queue for Torino defender Gleison Bremer, according to reports.
The Reds seem quite well stacked in the centre-back department with new signing Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Nat Phillips all competing for two starting spots.
However, Italian website TuttoMercatoWeb claims that Liverpool are monitoring Brazilian centre-back Bremer at Serie A outfit Torino.
What’s so great about Mo Salah? Literally everything
Bremer, who has been linked with Liverpool before, joined Torino from Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro in 2018 with the 24-year-old making 71 Serie A appearances in his time in Turin.
His contract comes to an end in June 2023 with the ‘renewal game’ starting at Torino as they look to tie him down to a longer deal.
TuttoMercatoWeb add that the Torino board – who currently pay him €500,000 a year – ‘will have to put a good offer on the plate’ to secure Bremer’s long-term services.
The defender’s ‘exponential and constant growth’ has put him on the radar of a number of clubs with Manchester United recently joining the race to sign him.
However, it is Liverpool who are ‘the most active’ club in the pursuit of his signature with Serie A side Napoli now ‘monitoring’ the situation closely.
It is thought that Torino value Bremer at least €25m with a number of clubs ‘starting to observe’ the centre-back ‘carefully’.
Meanwhile, Liverpool defender Matip is pleased to be back playing alongside Van Dijk again and he has also praised new addition Konate.
“It has been great for me to play alongside Virgil again,” Matip told the Liverpool FC magazine. “It was a long time for him to be out and I am really happy to see him back on the pitch.
“He’s the complete centre-back. He is calm with the ball and great against the ball. He is a leader when we are playing and we missed him, but now he is back and that is good for us.
“Ibou is settling in really good. It always takes some time to settle in general and in the defence to get a good connection.
“It needs time before I know how he will react and he will know how I react. We have trained a lot together and it will always need some time next to a new player, but he is already going really well.”
