Liverpool outcast Lazar Markovic “was a class above” for the club’s U23 side in a behind closed doors friendly against Crewe Alexandra.
Markovic has been demoted to Neil Critchley’s youth side this season after a proposed move to Anderlecht broke down in the summer.
The winger has no future at Anfield under Jurgen Klopp, and has entered the final year of a contract he signed when he joined from Benfica for £20million in 2014.
Banished from Klopp’s first-team squad, he is now training with the U23s and impressed Crewe manager David Artell in a friendly last week.
“Without a game at the weekend we used the time to take them to Liverpool on Friday,” he said.
“They trained with Critch’s under-23s and played a game behind closed doors. They had Markovic with them and he was a class above.
“It was a great experience and the players can really see the benefit of it.”
