Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have responded to claims that the pair do not get on at Liverpool.
Salah joined fellow African Mane at Liverpool in the summer after arriving from Roma, and has impressed greatly at Anfield.
The Egyptian was crowned African Player of the Year at an awards ceremony in Ghana on Thursday, with Mane coming in second.
The pair were quizzed over their friendship, with many believing Salah’s arrival has put Mane’s nose out of joint. Even Ian Wright.
But Mane was quick to dismiss those claims.
“Where do you get these rumours from?” he said. “Did you see the assist I gave him in our last game?”
Continuing, speaking to The Guardian, Mane added: “Mo and me are very, very good friends. He is maybe my best friend in Liverpool even though I am cool with everyone.
“Mo is the perfect gentleman, and it’s not just for the club. I know I mean a lot for people back home [in Senegal] but you have to see the reactions he gets from Egyptians when we even travel for games.”
Salah added, in praise of his teammate: “I respect him a lot. And it’s not just me; you can ask my team-mates, too.
“Many footballers have multiple personalities. He is not like that. He is truly religious. He truly loves people. And the fact that he is a good footballer makes it even better.”
