Liverpool will reportedly pay just £5million for Thiago Alcantara this summer as the intricacies of the Spaniard’s switch to Anfield have been revealed.
Thiago made his feelings known at the end of last season that he wanted a new challenge, and Bayern Munich were keen to get something for the midfielder who was entering the last year of his contract.
With the 29-year-old keen on a move to Anfield, Liverpool were in a strong negotiating position.
The Reds’ sporting director Michael Edwards is renowned for driving a hard bargain, and the result is a very impressive deal.
Thiago will sign a four-year contract at Liverpool, with a guaranteed £20million being paid in four installments over the course of the deal, according to the Mirror.
That means Liverpool are set to shell out just £5million upfront.
The remaining £6million of the £26million will be paid according to individual and team related bonuses.
They are said to include Liverpool winning the Premier League or Champions League again, if Thiago plays a ‘significant part’ in the triumphs.
And there are also triggers related to to individual acclaim, including winning the Ballon d’Or.
