According to reports, Liverpool are ‘preparing’ to submit a €45m to Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen as they attempt to sign Piero Hincapie.

A lot of focus has been on Liverpool during this summer’s transfer window as they have attempted to overhaul their midfield.

They have spent around £100m to bring in Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo to replace James Milner, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.

The Reds reportedly remain in the market for one more midfielder, with Crystal Palace’s Cheick Doucoure and Fluminense’s Andre among their targets.

The Premier League giants are also looking to sign a new centre-back as it is reportedly their ‘priority’ to sign a defender who can compete with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.

Hincapie is currently recovering from a broken metatarsal but he should be back to full fitness in the next week or two and he is reportedly on Liverpool’s radar.

Spanish outlet Fichajes are reporting that Liverpool are ‘willing to open their wallets again and they have set their sights on Hincapie’.

Liverpool are currently showing the ‘strongest interest’ in the centre-back and they are ‘willing to pay a considerable sum’ to secure his services.

A ’45 million euro offer is being prepared to close the signing’. Bayer Leverkusen are yet to give an ‘official response’ but they are under no pressure to sell the 21-year-old, who is under contract until 2027.

A separate report from Fichajes claims Liverpool have ‘joined the race’ to sign Juventus and Italy attacker Federico Chiesa.

The 25-year-old was linked with Liverpool earlier this summer but he has also been monitored by Newcastle United.

Reported interest from Liverpool is unlikely to lead to a transfer as Jurgen Klopp already has a lot of cover in attacking areas, but Fichajes are of the understanding that the Premier League outfit are going to ‘sit down with Juventus to negotiate in the next few days’.

PSV’s Johan Bakayoko is another attack-minded player who has been mentioned as a potential Liverpool target in recent days.

Their Premier League rivals Burnley have acted first in trying to sign Bakayoko, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that “PSV have rejected” their “new proposal” for the winger.

The report adds: “€20m bid turned down as not enough to sell talented winger. There are more clubs keen on signing him.”
