Liverpool are reportedly plotting a ‘late window signing’ before the transfer window closes next week and ‘two deals’ are on the agenda.

The Reds have signed one player this month, with Cody Gakpo being brought in from PSV Eindhoven. The attacker was initially expected to join Man Utd but Liverpool moved quickly to sign him for a fee that could rise to around £44m.

Liverpool are struggling this season as they currently find themselves down in ninth in the Premier League.

It is widely accepted that they are at their weakest in centre-midfield as their current crop of players are out of form or ageing.

Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham is their top target in that area and they hope to sign him in the summer amid fierce competition from Real Madrid and Manchester City.

They are expected to sign two midfielders in the summer, with Wolves’ Matheus Nunes mentioned as another potential addition.

Liverpool are expected to wait until the summer to do major business but Football Insider are reporting that Liverpool are ‘in talks to agree two deals’ before the January transfer window closes.

They are ‘in talks to sell Nat Phillips’ and they have ‘not completely closed the door on a new signing’. Reds boss Jurgen Klopp remained coy earlier this week when asked about the defender leaving.

“It depends if there are offers. We have to be prepared for pretty much everything, the 31st is deadline day and so we will see.”

‘A late window midfield loan signing is possible’ before Liverpool ‘step up the pursuit of their top midfield targets’ ahead of the summer.

As for Phillips, the report adds that ‘at least one Premier League club’ are interested in signing him permanently.

Liverpool have been impacted by injuries this term, with Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Virgil van Dijk among the players currently out of action.

Ex-Premier League defender Alan Hutton thinks Liverpool need to prioritise getting their injured players back fit over making signings.

“That is a big part of it, getting them fit,” Hutton told Football Insider.

“They know that, they have probably got one of the best medical teams around. They will be desperate to get players back but I would never say there is any team that is not looking to bring somebody in.

“Everybody is on the front foot, looking to bring in reinforcements, somebody that is going to help them improve.

“It is not about quantity, especially not for a team like Liverpool, it is about quality. Can they bring someone in who is better than what they have got and can help them improve.

“As long as they can get a target like that they will always be looking.“
