According to reports, Liverpool are set to submit an improved bid for FC Barcelona and Denmark centre-back Andreas Christensen in the coming days.

Liverpool have been focused on signing new midfielders this summer. Having already spent £95m to sign Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, they are now attempting to sign Romeo Lavia from Southampton.

Jurgen Klopp is also looking to strengthen in defence, though. The head coach is reportedly in the market for a new right-back and centre-back.

Christensen previously enjoyed a stellar spell with Chelsea in the Premier League. He played 161 times for the Blues and he helped them win the Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup.

The 27-year-old only joined Barcelona on a free transfer last summer but he is being linked with a return to the Premier League ahead of next season. Back in May, it was reported that Man Utd are considering a move for the experienced defender.

Spanish outlet Nacional are now reporting that a new centre-back is being pursued after a ‘personal request by Klopp’.

According to the report, Liverpool’s opening €30m for Christensen was ‘immediately rejected’ by the Barcelona hierarchy.

Liverpool are planning to ‘try their luck again’ and they ‘will raise their proposal to €50m’. This new offer will reportedly be submitted ‘in the coming days’.

The English side are said to be hoping that this new bid will tempt Barcelona to ‘sacrifice’ Christensen and ‘nothing can be ruled out at the moment’.

While a move for Christensen is unrealistic, a deal for Torino defender Perr Schuurs is far more feasible.

The 23-year-old shone for the Serie A outfit last season after he completed his move from Eredivisie giants Ajax.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with him over the past month, but an ‘agreement’ was reportedly reached last week ahead of a potential move to Crystal Palace.

Talk over a switch to Selhurst Park has gone quiet in recent days, but Italian outlet Toro are now claiming that Crystal Palace and Liverpool are ‘not letting him go’. They added.

‘Schuurs told fans he is not sure he will stay, given the interest shown by Premier League clubs.

‘Above all Liverpool, who are looking for a defender to work alongside Van Dijk, and Crystal Palace.

‘Torino, however, will not let him leave unless indispensable offers are made: the price set by the president of the grenade is 40 million euros and, for the moment, this figure has frozen negotiations with the two English clubs.’
