Liverpool: Redknapp makes major top-four prediction – ‘Man Utd look better – that is obvious’

Redknapp slams Liverpool

Jamie Redknapp has waded in on the top-four race in the Premier League and he is concerned about Liverpool and their “many different problems”.

The Reds have been a shadow of their usual selves this term but they have shown signs of progress here and there.

After they fell to a 3-2 defeat against Arsenal, Liverpool hammered Rangers 7-1 and then battled valiantly to beat Man City 1-0.

This could have easily been a turning point for Liverpool as up to that point they were floundering around mid-table in the Premier League.

Jurgen Klopp’s side did follow up the City victory with a 1-0 win over West Ham United. But they have taken a few steps back in recent weeks.

Liverpool were far from their best as they were beaten 1-0 away by bottom-placed Nottingham Forest.

A win over Ajax in midweek was a boost but optimism around the club has declined once again over the weekend.

This came as the Reds fell to another defeat against a side battling down the bottom of the league as they were bettered by Leeds United at Anfield.

Crysencio Summerville proved to be the match-winner as he scored Leeds’ second in their 2-1 win in the 89th-minute.

This result leaves Liverpool down in ninth after 12 games. They are already clearly out of the title race as they are 16 points adrift of league-leaders Arsenal.

They are also making it difficult for themselves to get in the top-four, with them eight points shy of Newcastle United with a game in hand.

Man Utd will overtake Newcastle if they win their game in hand and the gap between Erik ten Hag’s side and Liverpool is currently seven points.

Redknapp does not think that Liverpool will qualify for the Champions League with it being “obvious” that Man Utd “look better” right now.

“Everyone just imagined that Liverpool and Man City would be far in advance of everyone else,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.

“I don’t think anyone could see what’s happening at Liverpool right now – I certainly couldn’t. I thought they were bankers to finish first or second, but it’s all on them to finish in the top four.

“Right now, they [Man United] look better than Liverpool, that’s obvious. Liverpool are losing at home to a team near the bottom of the league, that’s just not good enough.

“There are more questions than answers. The midfield looks tired right now, (Sadio) Mane’s been a huge loss and defensively they don’t look the same team. There are so many different problems for Jurgen Klopp and is he capable of turning it around?

“What’s going to happen after the World Cup is going to be key and how people return from that in terms of freshness are if there are injuries.

“What it’s going to take out of them, mentally, we don’t know because we’ve never had this situation before. Liverpool have got it all on to get into that top four and right now, looking at it, I don’t think they do.”
