Liverpool ‘reluctant’ to lose Benteke on loan

Liverpool are said to be ‘reluctant’ to allow £32.5m signing Christian Benteke to leave the club on loan.

The Liverpool Echo claim that the club would rather keep the Belgian in their squad than allow him to leave on a temporary basis, though he has not featured in any of their pre-season games.

Liverpool still have Mario Balotelli and Benteke on their books, but they are behind Daniel Sturridge, Danny Ings, Divock Origi, Sheyi Ojo, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino in the striking pecking order.

Crystal Palace looked set to sign Benteke – and it’s a move that would very much make sense – but they did not match the £30m asking price.

Sunderland, West Ham, Hull City and Everton have all been linked with Benteke, with the latter seeing him as a perfect replacement for Chelsea target Romelu Lukaku.

Benteke has scored a very impressive 51 Premier League goals in 118 games for Aston Villa and Liverpool.
