Manchester United and Barcelona have both reportedly made proposals to Timo Werner over a summer move — but he is waiting to see whether Liverpool will come in for him.

Werner has long been linked with a move to Jurgen Klopp’s side, but he is also being targetted by a number of the top teams in Europe.

He made it clear last week after he helped RB Leipzig to a win over Spurs that he was keen to move there, with his reported release clause set at £51million.

“I know that Liverpool is the best team at the moment in the world and when you are linked with that team it makes me very proud,” Werner said.

Now, according to the Athletic, Werner is waiting to see whether Liverpool move for him.

The release clause has to be activated before a deadline in April, intended to give the Germans sufficient time to replace him ahead of next season.

The 23-year-old, who has scored 28 goals this season, says he is willing to fight for his place at Liverpool, should they come in for him.

He said: “I know that Liverpool play a lot of good players and I have to improve myself and I need to learn many more things to get to that level and to play there.”
