Liverpool are lining up a surprise move for West Ham winger Jarrod Bowen this summer, according to reports.

The Reds have been linked with numerous attacking players this summer as reports claim Jurgen Klopp is looking to improve his options behind regulars like Sadio Mane, Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota.

The likes of Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman and PSV Eindhoven’s Donyell Malen have been mooted but they seem no nearer to a breakthrough in any negotiations over any deals for a forward.

And the latest name to be linked is West Ham winger Bowen, although the news has come from a very reliable source in the form of The Athletic journalist James Pearce.

Bowen, who contributed eight goals and five assists in 40 appearances in all competitions last season for the Hammers, ‘is on Liverpool’s radar as they consider adding more firepower to their squad’.

The 24-year-old’s ‘name features on a shortlist drawn up of potential attacking targets’ as Klopp looks to improve his squad ahead of the forthcoming season.

Whether Liverpool improve that area of their side ‘depends to a large extent on whether Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri leave Anfield’ but ‘Bowen fits the profile’ if they do decide to press forward.

The Athletic’s Pearce adds:

‘He’s viewed as someone with massive potential who would initially provide high calibre back-up and increase competition for places.

‘Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp rates him highly and the club will continue to monitor his development even if they don’t ultimately pursue a deal this summer.’

Bowen got a goal and an assist, as well as 70 minutes action in West Ham’s draw with Dundee 12 days ago and is feeling “sharp” ahead of the new campaign.

He told West Ham’s official website: “It was good to be back out there. I think I got 70 minutes in the end, and I felt like I could have gone on and done 90 to be honest.

“I was enjoying it out there, which is probably strange to hear for the first pre-season game, but I felt really good and sharp.

“People might say the result isn’t important at this stage, but I think that the winning mentality of not losing the game sticks with all the players.

“So to come back from 2-0 down and bring it back to 2-2 was great for everyone involved and the young lads coming through too – Jamal scored today which was nice for him.

“It was a good game, a good bit of action, good goals, and we didn’t lose.”
