Ex-Liverpool striker Emile Heskey has urged his former club to sign Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus.
The 24-year-old joined the Bundesliga outfit in 2017 on a long-term deal from 1860 Munich.
Neuhaus established himself as a regular for Monchengladbach from the 2018/19 season onwards.
The German has 15 goals and 20 assists from his 113 outings for Monchengladbach. This included seven goals and eight assists this season. He has also been capped five times by Germany since he made his senior debut last year.
“I think they’ve missed that (sort of player) since Coutinho. Someone who can get in those pockets, travel with the ball and start committing defenders to come out of those spaces which they can exploit.
“We don’t really have that at this moment in time. I thought Curtis Jones could be one of those but when you’re in and out of the team, like he is, it’s difficult – especially when you’re a young lad as well!
“So someone like (Neuhaus) would suit Liverpool in the way that they play. Someone who can really drive with the ball.
“If you just sit in your zones, then it’s difficult to actually break teams down. If you can have someone with a bit of creativity, who starts pulling players all over the place, that’s what you need.”
Italian outlet Tutto Mercato have reported that Neuhaus is valued at £40m.
The midfielder told Kicker in February that he is unsure what will happen this summer:
“I have a contract until 2024 and I have very big goals for this season. That’s what I’m concentrating on now. [Transfer talk] is really not a big issue for me now.
“I play at Borussia, I have a contract, and we as a club are still pursuing very big goals this season. I can’t say what will happen in the summer at the moment.
“I’m also very relaxed about the future. Borussia is a club where I was able to develop excellently and where everything is there. I know what I have with Borussia.”
