Liverpool are said to be ramping up their interest in Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi as they look to add another centre-half to their ranks.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have done some excellent business so far, signing Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

With Liverpool seemingly pulling out of a deal for Southampton’s Romeo Lavia, Jurgen Klopp is now focused on bringing a defender to the club.

Liverpool conceded 47 league goals last season, which was more than any other side that finished in the top five.

With this being the case, it makes sense that they are looking to bolster their defensive options.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool are now ready to battle for the signature of Crystal Palace’s Guehi.

Along with Klopp’s side, the likes of Newcastle, Arsenal and Tottenham have also been linked with a move for the 22-year-old.

Guehi would be an excellent addition to any of those sides, although Palace are said to value him ‘in excess of £60m’ which could put some sides off.

The defender has had two solid seasons at Selhurst Park and he is a fully-fledged England international which will add to his price tag.

From Crystal Palace’s point of view, they are in no rush to sell one of their prized assets. He is under contract until 2026 and so they are in a strong position to dictate his value.

Guehi has been a long-term target for Liverpool, but it remains to be seen if they are willing to spend £60m on the defender.

Roy Hodgson has been impressed with the 22-year-old since being back at the club as he admitted the defender is still improving.

“Just in general terms he looks like a centre-back who has got a lot of qualities – he’s got pace, he understands and likes to defend,” Hodgson told reporters in April.

“He is good on the ball. If you’re ticking boxes of what I like my centre-back to look like, he ticks so many boxes. Now it is up to him, with the help he’ll get from the guys around him, to keep building on that.

“His first couple of seasons at Crystal Palace have been a massive success. He’s got to keep that going and hope to even keep adding a little bit more each year.”
