Liverpool striker Benteke set for scan

Liverpool striker Christian Benteke will have a scan on the hamstring he injured during the 1-1 draw with Norwich at Anfield on Sunday.

Danny Ings will replace Benteke in Wednesday’s Capital One Cup clash with Carlisle after he came off the bench to score against the Canaries.

“Christian is going to have an MRI scan today. He has a problem with his hamstring,” said Liverpool coach Gary McAllister. “He’s not going to be ready for tomorrow.

“Danny Ings came on and it was really refreshing to see his performance.

“He has been working his socks off on the training ground and it is not by a fluke that he scored. It is because of his hard work.”

Rodgers is now favourite to be the first Premier League manager to lose his job this season.

“The fans need something,” admitted McAllister. “Players need to get the fans going by playing attractive football and scoring goals.

“There were loads of good things at the weekend. We created chances and passed it better. It’s about building on top of that.”
