Liverpool hold transfer advantage over Man Utd as ‘flattered’ midfielder has ‘not forgotten’ Klopp interest
Liverpool have a transfer advantage over Manchester United in the race to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch this summer, according to reports.
Both clubs are looking to sign a new midfielder before the transfer window shuts on September 1 with some of the same players being linked.
Sofyan Amrabat has also been linked to both Man Utd and Liverpool with one report insisting the latter is ‘very close’ to a deal, while another story claims the former will make a bid in the next 48 hours for the Morocco international.
Following two disappointing displays from their midfielders, Man Utd have been urged to sign a new midfielder before the transfer window shuts.
While Liverpool are looking for their fourth new addition of the summer after Naby Keita, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Fabinho and Jordan Henderson all left this summer.
Wataru Endo joined last week to help boost Jurgen Klopp’s midfield ranks in a £18m deal from German side Stuttgart but the Liverpool boss still wants at least one more.
And now Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf claims that Liverpool have a slight advantage over Man Utd as they battle it out for Gravenberch as the Bayern Munich midfielder has ‘not forgotten’ that Klopp first registered his interest in the Netherlands international last summer.
It is understood that Gravenberch is ‘flattered’ by inerest from both Liverpool and Man Utd with the 21-year-old told he’ll be on the bench for the time being.
De Telegraaf add that it’s a ‘confusing time’ for Gravenberch and the report adds that for Man Utd it is now ‘important to convince’ Bayern to sell the youngster, who is not happy about his game time.
Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood reckons Gravenberch will end up at Liverpool this summer with the former Blackburn Rovers midfielder insisting they need a new midfielder to challenge for the title.
Sherwood said on Sky Sports: “If you looked at their squad at the moment, can they be the champions of the Premier League again? Absolutely not. But anything can happen in the next couple of weeks.
“I am sure Ryan Gravenberch will go in there, the midfield player from Bayern. Hasn’t played since he has been there.”
Former CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs reckons Gravenberch could be one to watch for Liverpool fans as the transfer window draws to a close.
Jacobs said on a Twitter Space: “Gravenberch could be interesting in the sense that the player would love to move to Liverpool. It’s just the case of Bayern and Tuchel not being sure if they want to let him go.
“Something late in the window could change their mind, but for much of this summer Bayern have said that they want to give the player a chance because he is still new there.”
