Liverpool are ‘treading with caution’ after it was claimed that Barcelona will transfer list Ousmane Dembele in August.

Dembele has emerged as a possible Liverpool target this summer as the current Premier League leaders aim to improve their attacking options in particular.

A move for Timo Werner looks in considerable doubt after Chelsea agreed personal terms with the Germany international and Leipzig striker.

Does Werner make Chelsea ‘one of the most exciting teams’?

While financial constraints have been cited as the reason Liverpool will not challenge for his signature, they continue to be linked with alternatives such as Jadon Sancho.

Dembele will also be considered, although Spanish newspaper Sport stress that clubs are ‘treading with caution’ due to the winger’s injury issues.

Barcelona have, however, ‘taken the decision’ to place Dembele on the transfer list in August, when the current La Liga season is scheduled to finish.

That will come as a surprise to the Frenchman’s agent, Moussa Sissoko, who insisted earlier this week that Dembele would stay at the Nou Camp.

He could still feature for the club in the Champions League, particularly as ‘no firm offers’ are on the table.

Dembele ‘has expressed his desire to stay’ in Spain but ‘the club have other plans’.

Liverpool could fund such a move by selling six ‘unwanted’ players to avoid a second successive summer with no major signings.

Divock Origi, Dejan Lovren, Xherdan Shaqiri, Loris Karius, Harry Wilson and Marko Grujic were planned to be made ‘available’ by the Anfield club this summer but that might well have changed due to the ongoing global pandemic.
