Lloris echoes Wenger with top-four trophy claim

Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris claims that a top-four place to secure Champions League football means more than a trophy.

Spurs exited the FA Cup at the semi-final stage and the Champions League at the last-16 stage but secured a top-four place on Wednesday night with victory over Newcastle United at Wembley.

It has been over a decade since Tottenham’s last trophy but the Frenchman has echoed Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who preached from the same hymn book during the Gunners’ barren spell.

“It means more than a trophy,” the Spurs captain told the BBC. “We can be proud of our season.

“It’s been tough, especially because we feel we’ve played 37 games away from home.

“You can say whatever you want but Wembley is not our stadium. We tried our best and to finish above Arsenal and Chelsea means a lot.”
