Romelu Lukaku was reportedly ‘upset’ at a Chelsea tweet celebrating the new year, after the striker was only a small part of the image.

The Belgium striker has returned to Inter Milan on loan after a less than comfortable 12 months back at Chelsea.

Inter will pay Chelsea a loan fee of £6.9m this season, plus £3.5m in bonuses if they win the Scudetto, and will cover all his wages.

The 29-year-old scored 15 goals in a second spell at Stamford Bridge which saw him speak out about his unhappiness at the club just weeks after his £97.5m move.

In his interview with Sky Sport Italia last December, Lukaku said: “Physically I am fine. But I’m not happy with the situation at Chelsea. [Thomas] Tuchel has chosen to play with another system.

“I won’t give up, I’ll be professional. I am not happy with the situation but I am professional – and I can’t give up now.”

It all went downhill from there and The Athletic claim Lukaku’s state of mind took a further turn for the worse as Chelsea celebrated the new year with a tweet containing a montage of players from their men’s and women’s teams.

Lukaku was a very small part of the image and was reportedly ‘upset by the apparent snub’. Where’s the Wally?

The Belgium striker appears to have spent much of his time last season upset about one thing or another, with GOAL journalist Nizaar Kinsella revealing this week that he wasn’t best pleased with a joke made by Thomas Tuchel.

He explained: “To see him talk so highly of Inter [during the Sky Italia interview] was an insult to Chelsea fans. It broke the relationship with them.

“And there was another incident behind the scenes that wasn’t televised or anything like that. Someone told me that Lukaku and Tuchel were watching a Tottenham game and Tuchel said, ‘There’s your daddy’, about Antonio Conte. It was just a joke, but apparently, it didn’t go down very well with Lukaku.”
