Liverpool target Bellingham

Jude Bellingham’s mother is reportedly keen for him to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer amid huge interest from Liverpool and Real Madrid.

The 19-year-old is the subject of interest from clubs around Europe ahead of the summer transfer window later this year.

This is hardly a surprise as the midfielder is currently one of the best young players in the world. He already has a lot of experience playing at the top level for both Dortmund and England.

Bellingham has captained Dortmund on several occasions this term and the world is his oyster. His contract is up in 2025 and it is likely that he will leave in the summer.

Liverpool have identified him and Wolves’ Mathues Nunes as their main midfield targets. It would be a major coup if they are able to sign Bellingham as Real Madrid are also tracking him.

Christian Falk is reporting that Dortmund would prefer to keep Bellingham but it is known that they will not stand in his way if he pushes for a move elsewhere.

Bellingham’s mother Denise does not ‘see his future lying in Dortmund’ as there is a feeling that ‘it can’t get much better’ for him at the German side.

‘Dortmund still have a bit of hope that Jude Bellingham could stay – they want to make him a new offer where he would become the top earner at the club with €15m. They’re planning talks in March now,’ Falk wrote for Caught Offside.

‘His family is thinking about the future and they’re well aware that the next step has to come in the summer because it can’t be much better for Bellingham in the Bundesliga.

‘His mother, Denise, is living with him in Dortmund and keeps an eye on everything. I don’t think she sees the future lying in Dortmund.

‘Still no offers for the club. Real Madrid are knocking repeatedly at Bellingham’s door and everyone in Europe knows March is the ideal time to make their feelings known. Real Madrid are prepared but Dortmund have to make a clear move to try and retain the player because of the fans.

‘If he were to sign a new deal, they could factor in Marco Reus’ potential exit or drop in salary to give him a financial boost. But everybody in Dortmund knows, and from what I heard, they are open to exit talks with two years remaining on his current deal.’

Liverpool’s hopes of signing Bellingham could depend on their ability to qualify for the Champions League this season. This is according to Gabriel Agbonlahor.

The ex-Premier League forward also feels that the influence of Steven Gerrard “means nothing”.

“I don’t think they can get him without Champions League. If they are going to get him, they have to finish in the top four,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider.

“No player of his quality will want to miss out on a year playing at the highest level. Even if they do get Champions League football, I still think there will be big competition.

“Man City will be looking, Real Madrid are an option – along with every club in the world.

“For me, it will come down to him specifically wanting to play for Liverpool. The influence of Steven Gerrard, or any of the current players – that means nothing.”
