Kylian Mbappe is reportedly expected to extend his Paris Saint-Germain contract until 2025 despite telling the club of his plan to leave, as president Nasser El-Khelaifi has stated he is “committed” to them.

Mbappe is one of world football’s most coveted stars. That owes to the fact that he is very clearly one of the best players on the planet at the moment.

The forward has already won countless trophies, including a World Cup, and also scored a hat-trick in a losing cause in another World Cup final. To this point in his career, the 24-year-old Frenchman has scored 239 goals at club level, in addition to 40 in international football.

Every club in the world would take him on board if they could afford him. Some might have been given the chance next summer, when his contract is up, as the striker reportedly made it clear to PSG in June that he would not extend his deal.

Subsequent reports suggested Mbappe has an agreement in place with Real Madrid to join them when his contract runs out. That gives one answer as to why he turned down a mouthwatering contract from Al Hilal, after PSG agreed to sell to them for £258million.

The French side are clearly unhappy that their star doesn’t want to play for them, and had sat him out of pre-season games, as well as their opening fixture of the season in Ligue 1.

Now, though, Mbappe has made up with them, and has returned to the fold. What’s more, club president El-Khelaifi is quoted by Sky Sports as saying “Kylian is committed to PSG”.

That same report suggests he’s made a major U-turn on his decision not to leave. Indeed, it’s stated the superstar is ‘expected to extend his contract to 2025’.

That comes as a shock, after he outright told the club he didn’t want to play for them beyond next year, and was sat out as a result.

It remains to be seen whether he does actually pen a new deal. There might be more twists in the tale, as it’s conceivable he’s leading them to believe he’s ready to put pen to paper just so he’s still allowed to play football, and doesn’t get rusty ahead of a potential move.
