Bayern Munich want to sign Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega as the German club continues their search for a new shot-stopper.

It’s no secret that Bayern are currently in the transfer market for a new goalkeeper as Manuel Neuer continues to recover from injury.

The German club wanted to sign Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga, but the Spanish goalkeeper snubbed them in favour of Real Madrid.

Following the loss of Yann Sommer, it is understandable that Thomas Tuchel is desperate to add to his goalkeeping ranks.

According to Florian Plettenberg, Bayern have made Ortega their new “top option” as bosses at the club have “discussed” the player.

“Talks with the player’s camp took place in the last days,” Plettenberg confirmed. “Guardiola, very confident with Ortega; Man City considering to extend beyond 2025.

“Decision to join Bayern, up to Ortega. Bayern still wants to replace Sommer. Despite of very good performances of [Sven] Ulreich.”

Man City will want to keep hold of Ortega as the 30-year-old has proven himself to be a worthy back up to Ederson.

Following a series of impressive cup performances last season, Guardiola described the shot-stopper as “exceptional”.

“The way he’s played in Carabao Cup and FA Cup so far,” Guardiola told the club website. “Even in the Champions League when he played against Dortmund.

“We were qualified but fighting for the first position. He’s an exceptional goalkeeper. Exceptional. He’s [Ederson] another exceptional goalkeeper, I have no doubts.

“The reality is now we have another keeper pushing to him like never before. In terms of what they have done so far in the build up with the group.

“He’s a typical German goalkeeper, they stay up. Makes incredible handball movements. He’s a really, really good keeper.”

Bayern had been keen on signing Kyle Walker earlier in the window and at one stage it looked like the deal was on.

Walker was said to be in favour of the switch to the Bundesliga, but the defender has since had a change of heart.

“Understand Kyle Walker will sign his new deal at Manchester City in the coming days — expectation to get it sealed by the end of next week,” Fabrizio Romano explained.

“Walker confirmed to City this week that he’s 100% staying and won’t join Bayern, not changing his mind.”
