Man United have left Jadon Sancho with a ‘sour taste’ after their inability to strike a deal with Borussia Dortmund.

Sancho had long been considered United’s primary transfer target heading into this most recent window, with Dortmund not averse to negotiating the winger’s departure.

The Germans outlined their demands – £108m and a deadline of August 10 – but ‘deluded’ Man United ignored them and instead struck deals for two teenage right wingers in their problem position.

It has since been claimed that Sancho felt ‘undervalued’ by United’s low-balling offer and 90Min appear to corroborate that by adding that the England international was left with ‘a sour taste’ as he did not feel Dortmund’s price was ‘unreasonable’.

The 20-year-old considers himself ‘back to square one’ with regards to his future, keeping ‘an open mind’ over a protracted move to Man United but also entertaining potential interest from Liverpool and Bayern Munich.

Sancho will be recalled to England’s bio-secure bubble for the Nations League fixtures against Belgium and Denmark after he, Ben Chilwell and Tammy Abraham were all barred from the camp due to a breach of current guidelines restricting gatherings of more than six people.

The trio were warned by Gareth Southgate not to make the “pressure” on the England team “higher than it already is by having this circus going around it” in midweek.

“We have to recognise that things like this affect the team,” he said. “They affect the energy. They take time to deal with. And that time would be better spent being able to focus on preparing for training, having coaching conversations with players.

“So it draws you away from where you really want to be.

“The players have already accepted that they were in the wrong. I have to be very careful about being on my moral high horse about things that happened when we are not in camp with the team.”
