Manchester United have been ‘handed a major injury boost’ ahead of their Premier League clash with Liverpool.

United host Liverpool on Sunday in the hope of exacting some revenge on their bitter rivals for the comprehensive defeat they suffered in December.

Liverpool beat United so thoroughly that they promptly sacked Jose Mourinho, who can no longer bear to watch his former side.

But they are in considerably better form under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, winning eight of nine Premier League games under the Norwegian.

Their biggest test yet will come at the weekend, but they have been given a boost with updates on the fitness of Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial.

Both players were expected to miss Monday’s FA Cup fifth-round tie with Chelsea as well as the Liverpool league game, but the Daily Mirror now say the injuries ‘are not as bad as first thought’.

Solskjaer suggested that the forwards would both be sidelined for a fortnight after suffering injuries against PSG, but ‘sources believe one or both’ could return against Jurgen Klopp’s second-placed side.

Neither will feature against Chelsea. Alexis ‘tomato ketchup bottle‘ Sanchez it is.
