Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have been shortlisted for the Europa League Player of the Season award for 2016/17.
UEFA will crown their best player award at the group stage draw in Monaco on August 25, with the three Manchester United players the only ones on the shortlist.
The shortlist was picked by a panel of coaches and journalists, and represents Manchester United’s comfortable victory in the final.
‘All three were inspirational in Manchester United winning the competition last term, a triumph that completed the English giants’ set of major UEFA club trophies,’ the story on UEFA’s website reads.
‘Mkhitaryan and Pogba were on target in the 2-0 victory over Ajax in the Stockholm final, while Ibrahimović had scored five goals, including a round of 16 hat-trick against Saint-Étienne, before sustaining a serious knee injury late in the quarter-final second leg versus Anderlecht.’
Alexandre Lacazette was fourth and just missed out on the shortlist, ahead of Ajax’s Kasper Dolberg and Marcus Rashford. Ander Herrera was joint seventh with Davy Klaassen.
