Harry Maguire’s representatives reportedly think the Man Utd and England defender “would suit” a move to Italy and six clubs are interested in him.

The defender’s form has declined over the past couple of seasons and he has slipped down the pecking order following the arrival of Erik ten Hag.

The Dutch head coach opted to go with Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane as his preferred centre-back pair during his first season in charge. With United understood to be in the market for a new defender, Maguire’s future at the Premier League giants is in doubt.

The Red Devils are looking to sell squad players to raise funds for their own targets and Maguire is one high-earner they are looking to get off their books. Last month, it was reported that he is currently valued at £40m.

TEAMtalk transfer expert Graeme Bailey is reporting that Maguire has been ‘urged by his agent to complete a shock Italy move with three Serie A giants keen on a deal’.

“From speaking to people with knowledge of the situation, there is a real issue at the moment with Harry Maguire, in that he does not want to leave,” Bailey told TEAMtalk.

“His agents believe a move to Italy would suit him and there is genuine interest from the likes of Juventus, Inter and Milan. His agents think first-team football ahead of the 2024 European Championship would be ideal.

“And there is interest in England with Tottenham, Newcastle and West Ham amongst those who would be keen to take him – but Maguire is in no hurry to leave.”

“If Maguire doesn’t go that causes issues for United. He is on huge money and they we were working on the premise that he would be replaced, not that they would be adding another central defender to the squad.

“Some at United believe they should push ahead and bring another body in, but that is seen as a risky move by others at the club.”

Ten Hag is reportedly ‘considering’ including Maguire in a swap deal for West Ham’s Declan Rice and ex-United player Dimitar Berbatov reckons the defender “may have to go to another club”.

“I can understand why you’d want to stay and prove that you’re good enough and Harry Maguire plays for the England national team, so he has the confidence to show how good he is,” Berbatov told Betfred.

“On the other hand, if the boss has told him that he’s not going to count on him as much as he wants and so on, then Harry will probably have to try and get a move elsewhere. He may have to go to another club to show how good he is and if he decides to not do this, then there’s going to be a bit of friction between him and the manager.”
