Manchester United had a bid for Randal Kolo Muani turned down earlier in the summer transfer window, according to a French journalist.

The Red Devils spent a large part of the summer transfer window being linked with numerous strikers as they looked to bring in a permanent signing.

Wout Weghorst joined on loan from Burnley for the final half of last season after Cristiano Ronaldo left the club at the end of November.

Ronaldo had his contract terminated by mutual agreement following a controversial interview with Piers Morgan, in which he criticised staff, former players, the board and more.

The Portugal international scored 27 goals in 54 appearances in his second spell at Old Trafford and Erik ten Hag was keen to bring in someone to take the goalscoring burden away from last season’s top goalscorer Marcus Rashford.

Ten Hag eventually decided on a youthful striker with Man Utd forking out £72m to sign Denmark international Rasmus Hojlund from Serie A side Atalanta.

The Red Devils had been linked with Harry Kane, Goncalo Ramos, Marcus Thuram and Kolo Muani were all linked before the Red Devils settled on Hojlund.

L’Equipe journalist Loic Tanzi has been reporting on Paris Saint-Germain’s plan to make a second bid for Eintracht Frankfurt’s Kolo Muani and mentions that Man Utd also made an offer of €70m (£60m) earlier in the window, which was rejected by the German outfit.

Tanzi wrote on Twitter: ‘This second offer is still not gone. Paris are still considering how to formulate it as Frankfurt have already refused 70M € + bonus from Manchester United this summer.’

Hojlund did not appear for Man Utd in their first two matches of the new campaign with the Dane missing all of pre-season because of a back injury.

And former Man Utd defender Gary Neville is worried that he will have “massive pressure on his shoulders” when he eventually makes his debut.

Neville said on The Overlap YouTube channel: “I hope they’re [Manchester United] being clever, and Kane’s being clever, and they’re waiting to get a deal whereby they agree a deal with Munich, he says ‘no I’m not going, and I want to go to United’.

“United need Kane, they still need the young lad as well [Rasmus Højlund] to back him up and bed in and play his 25/30 games because he didn’t play every game for Atalanta last season.

“I’m worried that we’ve got this kid up front that to be fair, has massive pressure on his shoulders.

“Everyone’s going to be watching him, he needs that pressure taken off him a bit. Kane puts United into that sort of realm of catching Arsenal and City.”
