Man Utd have reportedly contacted several top European clubs in effort to bring in a midfielder after receiving bad injury news over Christian Eriksen.

The Red Devils revealed on Tuesday that the Danish midfielder is “likely to be out until late April or early May” after he was injured in their 3-1 victory over Reading the their FA Cup fourth round clash.

A statement on United’s website read: “Christian Eriksen is expected to be out of action for an extended period because of an ankle injury sustained in our FA Cup victory over Reading on Saturday.

“Our Danish midfielder was withdrawn in the second half of the 3-1 win after being caught by a tackle from Reading striker Andy Carroll.

“While investigations are continuing, initial assessments indicate that Eriksen is likely to be out until late April or early May.”

Asked if he believes Man Utd had enough depth to cover Eriksen’s absence or whether they could make a deadline-day move, Erik ten Hag told reporters: “As you said, on deadline day it’s difficult.

“You can’t make policy on such bad injuries but we have players in the midfield department and good players. We have players who can fill that gap.”

And now the Daily Telegraph claim that Man Utd ‘will try and bring in a midfielder on loan’ to cover for the loss of Eriksen and ‘have been offered the chance to sign Yannick Carrasco from Atletico Madrid’.

The Telegraph adds: ‘There is understood to have been contact between Carrasco’s representatives and United although it seems far more likely that the Belgium international will join Barcelona in the summer.’

Eriksen and Carrasco are ‘different types of players’ and ‘it seems far more likely that the Belgium international will join Barcelona in the summer’.

On Eriksen’s injury, the Telegraph continues:

‘That has sparked a desperate scramble from United who are now contacting several leading clubs around Europe to see whether they can bring in a midfielder before tonight’s transfer deadline.

‘Contact is believed to have been made with Atletico, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain but so far United have been left frustrated.’

Man Utd ‘are only interested in a loan deal on deadline day and remain cool on the prospect of signing Carrasco’.

Tottenham and Newcastle United have attempted to sign Carrasco in the past but he has stayed at Atletico despite repeated links to the Premier League.
