Manchester United could bring Odion Ighalo to Old Trafford on a permanent basis, according to reports.

Ighalo is on loan at Man Utd until the end of the season from Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua after the Premier League side were desperate for January reinforcements up front.

The Nigerian has started three of the eight matches he’s played under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Man Utd, with an impressive return of four goals in that period.

The Daily Mirror claimed on Thursday that Man Utd ‘are thought to be keen on making Odion Ighalo’s loan move permanent’.

And now Italian website Calciomercato (via Sport Witness) reckon the ‘humble and smiling’ striker could make his dream loan move into a permanent one in the summer.

The report says he rejected Tottenham before sealing the move to United, while Inter Milan were also reportedly an option for the 30-year-old.

They describe a move from Shanghai to Man Utd on a permanent basis as ‘not unthinkable, far from it’.

Sport Witness adds that the same journalist who wrote this report in Calciomercato has previously claimed that Man Utd didn’t have time to negotiate an option to buy as they were worried they would miss out on signing him altogether.
