Man Utd ‘make decision’ over permanent transfer; Ten Hag boost as PSG will snub Red Devils target
Man Utd have reportedly decided that they will not sign Wout Weghorst from Burnley on a permanent basis during this summer’s transfer window.
The Dutchman joined Man Utd on loan during the January transfer window. He was recruited following Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit at the end of last year.
The 30-year-old has featured heavily for the Red Devils over the past couple of months but he has been unable to make a substantial impact. He has only grabbed two goals and three assists in 26 outings for the Premier League club.
Weghorst has slipped down the pecking order in recent weeks as he has not started any of United’s last six Premier League games. He made a brief six-minute cameo appearance in the 1-0 defeat to Brighton on Thursday night.
Manchester Evening News are now reporting that United have ‘made a decision’ over Weghorst’s future as they are ‘not planning to sign him on a permanent basis’.
The report points out that Man Utd are ‘prioritising a new centre forward in the summer’. Harry Kane is Ten Hag’s ‘preferred target’ but they are also considering Victor Osimhen, Rasmus Hojlund, Goncalo Ramos, Mohammed Kudus and Randal Kolo Muani.
Muani has been in stunning form for Eintracht Frankfurt this season. He has grabbed 21 goals and 15 assists in 41 appearances this term across all competitions.

Journalist Jonathan Johnson has told Caught Offside that it’s “hard to imagine” PSG paying “in excess of €100m” to recruit Muani this summer.
“There’s been some talk of Kylian Mbappe speaking to his French international teammate Randal Kolo Muani about joining him at PSG, but the issue here is that it’s going to be difficult to justify paying the kind of money required for the Eintracht Frankfurt striker, given that he left Nantes on a free fairly recently,” Johnson said.
“Kolo Muani has been superb in the Bundesliga and he’s probably now worth in excess of €100million, while there’s likely to be a lot of other interest in him. Bayern Munich are one club to watch as they look for that kind of striker, while we’ve also heard some whispers about Manchester United.
“PSG do need a centre-forward of that profile, though, and it helps that Kolo Muani is from the Paris region as they look to ‘Frenchify’ their squad, so to speak.
“Still, I’d find it hard to imagine PSG piling all that money into someone like Kolo Muani when a similar player in Marcus Thuram is set to become available as a free agent; they’re not exactly the same kind of player but he’d be another good option and another French talent who could offer a solution in that position.”
